Charles
Rennie Mackintosh (1868-1928)
Although
Charles
Rennie Mackintosh died way back in 1928, interest in his work is certainly more alive
today than it was in his lifetime. He lived a century before his time and
if alive today, Charles
Rennie Mackintosh would have been one of the most highly acclaimed Architects
and Designers of his era. Charles
Rennie Mackintosh's designs are fresh, embracing and aesthetically appealing
to both young and old alike. It is interesting to see todays designs which
have a definite Charles
Rennie Mackintosh influence. We all have much to thank him for. Charles
Rennie Mackintosh showed undying determination from the age of 15 to develop
his skills as a competent Architect and Interior Designer. He had some
great successes in his lifetime, but Charles
Rennie Mackintosh also had some big disappointments. The arts world abandoned
him at a time when he could have produced more great works. He never recovered
professionally and lived life out as a semi recluse in the south of France with
his wife Margaret. Charles
Rennie Mackintosh died in a London Hospital in December 1928. Charles
Rennie Mackintosh had a passion, a love for what he did and how he did
it. Challenged by the normal expectations from Architects and Designers of
his time, Charles
Rennie Mackintosh chose to create different designs, aspects and interpretations
for one off commissions for public and private buildings. We could
all learn from his approach.
