This ink and hand painted watercolour is a copy of the Rose Boudoir window panel which Mackintosh designed for the International Exhibition of Modern and Decorative Art at Turin in 1902.
The design, showing a stylised female figure, is closely related to Mackintosh's contemporaneous graphic designs. Coloured glass was regularly incorporated into Mackintosh's furniture and interiors of the early 1900s as inset panels. With these the light filtering through would create rich and varied effects. This was set in a room which Mackintosh called 'A Rose Boudoir'. The theme of the rose inspired the overall colour scheme of white, silver and pink, and underlay the decorative detailing of many of the pieces designed for the room.
